Media Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Media Manager will help to change the public narrative on climate change – making it
understood as a health issue that affects all Australians – and raise awareness about the need
for a healthy planet and diverse ecosystems to support human health.
Doctors are among the most trusted people in our society. They have the ability to reach people who might otherwise not see climate action and environmental protection as priority issues.
This role will enable the trusted voices of doctors to be heard by a wide audience through traditional media outlets by maximising the quality and reach of DEA’s messages.
The Media Manager will also amplify DEA’s messages to the health sector to help it reduce its
own carbon footprint and increase doctors and medical students’ understanding of the links
between health, climate and the environment.
Delivery of the Role:
Working collaboratively with a small staff and DEA members, you will lead out strategic and
operational thinking on how to best place DEA in the news. This includes write-ups by journalists,
opeds by DEA members and other media that positions DEA as the preeminent voice for climate,
environment and health.

ABOUT YOU

  • You are passionate about staying across news and current affairs, in particular political, climate andhealth news.
  • You have a keen eye for spotting opportunities for a story and you are unwavering in your determination to get doctors in the media.
  • You can translate health messages into news worthy stories, and you can write a mean press
    release that will get journos and editors excited.
  • You think like a journalist and how to pitch stories in a way that carries interest with news editors.
  • You have experience in the media landscape and know how to build relationships with journalists, editors and those who have influence on the story of the day.
  • You know how to work with doctors and medical students and are unphased by health industry
    technical jargon and you enjoy coaching people to become stellar public and media spokespeople.
  • You understand and see the value of social media however aren’t necessarily an expert, but happy to chip in where you can.
  • You have a strategic mind that can open new ways of doing things, including attracting the attention of conservtive media outlets to help make climate a non-partisan issue.

Digital Strategist/Communications Manager

About the Role

The Digital Strategist/Communications Manager will help to change the public narrative on climate
change – making it understood as a health issue that affects all Australians – and raise awareness
about the need for a healthy planet and diverse ecosystems to support human health.


Doctors are among the most trusted people in our society. They have the ability to reach people who might otherwise not see climate action and environmental protection as priority issues.

This role will enable the trusted voices of doctors to be heard by a wider audience through social
media by maximising the quality and targeted reach of DEA’s messages. This includes strategically growing and monitoring our social media following and presence.

The Digital Strategist/Communications Manager will also amplify DEA’s messages to the health
sector to help it reduce its own carbon footprint and increase doctors and medical students’
understanding of the links between health, climate and the environment.

The role will have overall responsibility for DEA’s internal and external communications –
developing communications strategy, identifying key messages, overseeing and delivering high
quality publications, overall management of the website.


Delivery of the Role:
Working collaboratively with a small staff and DEA members, you will develop and implement
communications and digital campaigningstrategies that grow DEA’s supporter base and
extend our reach to more conservative and mainstream audiences. To include: define/identify
influencers, develop messages, build content targeted at those groups, have online conversations with them, engage politicians online.

About You

  • You are someone who is able to work across the political spectrum and hungry to shift mindsets
    towards a climate and environmental agenda.
  • You work well independently and in a team, and are proactive in taking initiative to advance the
    mission of DEA.
  • Your leadership style is calm, focused and patient, whilst also having the energy and self motivationto deliver your own work.
  • You enjoy encouraging others to be their best and understand how to foster team dynamics to produce this.
  • You’re a social media aficionado who loves analytics as much as you are passionate about
    effective content production. You are great at visual design and are capable of content creation
    for external audiences on social media as well as internal audiences for our comms to our
    membership, board, funders and medical professionals more broadly.
  • You are comfortable with reading and editing scientific material and making it digestable for
    broader audiences.
  • You have a really good eye for detail, love words and can be trusted to sign off on material that is diligently proofread and error free.
